These safety tips apply to the Muskoka Pooch Adult Pet Hoodie and Sleeveless Pet Hoodie. Not every pet enjoys a pouch. Use only while awake and actively supervising your pet.
Keep your pet's face uncovered and the pouch opening clear of fabric, blankets and other items. Check their position often so their nose and mouth remain unobstructed. If you cannot maintain a clear opening and a comfortable position, stop using the pouch.
Both hoodies use fleece, and the sleeveless design does not remove the risk of overheating. Avoid hot conditions, direct sun and strenuous activity. Check frequently for unusual panting, restlessness or other signs of discomfort. Remove your pet promptly if they seem too warm or distressed. If symptoms persist or concern you, contact a veterinarian.
If your hoodie has drawstrings, keep them and any loose cords out of your pet's reach. Do not let your pet chew them, and never loop or tie them around your pet, collar or harness. If cords cannot be kept safely away, do not use the pouch.
Do not assume the pouch is escape-proof or a substitute for a secure pet carrier. Before each use, check the fabric, seams and any zippers or fastenings for damage and confirm removable parts are properly attached. Begin seated close to the floor in a quiet, enclosed room. Keep a hand ready to support your pet, avoid bending or sudden movements, and stop if they try to climb or jump out. Never improvise a tether using drawstrings or attach a leash to the hoodie.
Let your pet sniff and explore the hoodie first. Try brief, calm sessions while seated, without forcing them into the pouch. Increase time only if they remain relaxed. End the session if they struggle, freeze, repeatedly try to leave or otherwise appear uncomfortable.
It may not be. A pet that dislikes being held or enclosed should not be forced to use the pouch. Choose another way to keep them close or transport them. Ask your veterinarian for advice if you are unsure whether pouch use is appropriate for your pet's health or mobility.
No. Never leave your pet unattended in the pouch, including while sleeping. Keep checking their position, comfort and behaviour, and remove them whenever you cannot actively supervise. The pouch is not a vehicle restraint or protective carrier.
The Adult Pet Hoodie is recommended for pets weighing 15 lb or less; the Sleeveless Pet Hoodie is recommended for pets under 15 lb. Weight alone does not determine suitability. Check your pet's fit and comfort as well as your own clothing size using our Sizing Charts.
Read the existing safety disclaimer in the Adult Pet Hoodie product description or Sleeveless Pet Hoodie product description. For both products, the buyer is responsible for their pet's safety, and a pet must never be left unattended in the pouch. These tips do not guarantee safety.
